Thanksgiving 2014-The Good, The Bad, The TMI Stuff

Thanksgiving has come and gone. I can officially say it was one of my more eventful ones-for not good reasons. I forgot a ton of ingredients for my stuffing recipe that everyone usually enjoys. My mind was too racy to make my promised mini pumpkin pies-and I got sick....

It isn't Thanksgiving unless this jello recipe comes out! Maybe that's what got me sick? Lol
I have a few ideas of what may have happened, which I won't mention. I just hope to never have this happen on Thanksgiving again!

My mom's side of the family then got together yesterday at El Cholo's. I jokingly call this restaurant white man's Mexican food. Yes, it's very good, but not authentic in my opinion. We never hit that place unless we're celebrating some special occasion. My aunt and uncle went on their first date there though, which is why we always go there for family occasions. My immediate family though? We hit up the authentic Mexican place close to my parents house. :)

Traditions are good and it was also good to see my family. My cousin and her hubby brought their 2 1/2 year old, who I obviously thought was a total cutie pie and shot a zillion pics of him. (And I got my cousin's permission to stick these online. I'm very cautious in that respect.)

This Is That Time Of The Year.......

It's that time of year again! A time when all the holidays are advertised way too early. A time when thoughts turn towards Santa Claus, turkeys, gratitude....

A time when I begin to prepare to unload my crafts at boutiques...

Yes folks, it's almost Christmas boutique season time! A time when all I see are craft related supplies to get my half finished projects completed to sell.

I can't begin to tell you how big this pile of letter stickers is. These are years old-and I still have them!

A drawer full of almost finished Christmas cards. They too will be finished up and put on the selling block.

Book cover 1 (Yes, I need to vacuum...)

Book cover 2 (excuse the wires-lolol)

And a completed book!

I really enjoy doing this and need to do more of it. It's a great tradition though at Christmas time, which I love doing each year.

I May Look Okay, But I Feel Like I'm In Menopause...

I was recently talking online with a cousin of my dad's, who asked if my pituitary gland "thing" was still bothering me. "Thing."

Yes, I still have my brain tumor, I told her. (I think I was in a snarky mood that day. It was the truth, but I guess I was annoyed.)

What???? You have a what??? I could tell she didn't believe me. The conversation became odd after that. I could tell she must have thought I was trying to pull one over on her.

For those of you that don't know, pituitary gland tumors are indeed considered brain tumors. The pituitary gland is attached to the brain, therefore, it's a brain tumor. (Two endocrinologists I've seen have confirmed this.) That's probably why I got so freaked out when I was first diagnosed. Wouldn't anyone diagnosed with a brain tumor?

The pituitary gland is the master center for your hormones, including the thyroid. Anything that goes wrong with it can seriously put your body out of whack. Like facial hair, weight gain, mood issues... The list goes on and on.

I think the problem is that a lot of people simply don't know that a pituitary tumor is considered a brain tumor. You really don't hear about them and we can (relatively) function at a normal level.

Except for the fact that I've been feeling like I'm in menopause this week. Yeah, not fun...

So imagine when someone does need surgery for this what people will say? I've joined online support groups for this and apparently not a lot of folks believe us when we say something is wrong. Someone even told a person who had surgery that they didn't believe them! The patient even said come with me to a doctor's appointment!

I haven't needed surgery yet. So far this has been treated with medication to lower my prolactin level-which has been successful. There's also a possibility that this could be Cushing's Disease. I hit almost every category for this, but every blood and urine test has come back fine. I want to talk to the endocrinologist about this at my next appointment because no doctor has run one other blood test for Cushing's.

I could get surgery if I had Cushing's. This tumor could be removed. I'd kind of like for it to be removed-except for the fact that a neurosurgeon would have to do the surgery-through my nose. Icky.... I guess it's better than a drill through your skull.... Chills just talking about it....

So what reaction do I get when I mention this to a few people? Shock, of course. As my aunt said to me a few years ago right after I got diagnosed, "Um, you look fine." When I begin to explain this to others though, they're glad I got a diagnosis and tell me it makes a lot of sense. It honestly does. And then some simply don't believe me. (Their problem.)

Have you ever heard of a pituitary adenoma? I'd love it if you'd comment and let me know. Let's spread the word!

Friday Pictoral Recap

Today was a sad day, as I found out a cousin of my dad's who I really liked passed away the day before. She also enjoyed crafting and painted me some note cards one time, hence the reason why I took the photos of the cards. Anyway, here is Day 4:

Before you all think I went nuts at the store, I should put a disclaimer in. I have to be on a clear liquid diet one day next week.

A neighbor walked by right when I was taking the photo and wondered what the heck I was doing. Taking a picture of the changing leaves?

Thursday Pictoral Recap

Tired is the only word I can use to describe today also. I don't know why either. Lack of caffeine? Maybe. Other factors? Probably. Tiredness equals lack of pictures though. Here's what I did take though:

Project Life Thursday: AKA-Why You Don't Order Small Pics For This

This week's Project Life comes with a reminder as to why you don't order 3" x 5" photos for this. I did-and spent a bloody long time backing the photos with card stock to stop them from falling out every five seconds. UCLA and the LA Arboretum were fortunate to match with the card stock I had on hand. :)

As you can see, Project Life is pretty versatile. I need to look and see though if they offer page protectors with 3" x 5" holders. Do they? That would be really nice!

 Really, really nice.....

Wednesday Pictoral Recap

Tired is the only word I can use to describe yesterday. I stayed up too late watching election results and had to get up in the morning to go to work. Damn! ;)

I still took photos though! Enjoy Day 2 of my Week in the Life entries.
