Paid holidays make everything better...

It was nice to start the week out on a relaxed note. Memorial Day arrived, which meant a paid holiday. Paid holidays make everything all better. :)

I was exhausted on Sunday, which meant no church. I should have gone anyway (because the message topic was awesome)but didn't. I did spend time in the word though. I also did my parents grocery shopping once again. Mom said her knee is feeling better, but not enough to finish her two page shopping list. I literally had a full basket for them when done, as you can see. For just her and my dad...

I was a little irritable by the time I left their house, probably because it took me so long to get their groceries, their dog's bark seemed much louder than usual and I was just tired. I'm happy to help them though since they've done so much for me.

I went to see the flag displays on Monday-one at the cemetery a few miles in my city and another the next city away that a set of my grandparents are at. I like the flag display the best that the cemetery my grandparents are at.

I also attempted to dye my hair. I like the color, even though it needs some fixing.

Tuesday went fine. We had an anti-harassment seminar at work. My boss and I also looked over the files, which made more sense this time. I have to admit though that the lack of work scared me. It's a weird work flow.

Wednesday was also a slooooooow work day. I seriously wonder if they over hired at work. I think other people feel the way I do, because one of my co-workers did an incredibly brilliant thing and did a phone interview right outside the door at work. I also panicked when my boss sent me an email CC'ing her boss about all the mistakes I made the day before. I felt better though once I discussed it with her. Apparently this will happen from now on whenever mistakes were made in the files from the day before. The mistake I made was a misunderstanding from when she trained me. Now I know-that, and that I have to check my work daily. I can only do what I can do though.

Thursday also proved to be an interesting day at work. I learned something new, which is always awesome. The work flow was not so hot. I say that because I was asked to work on a file so that another department could have work to do.  I just don't have a good feeling about this place.

Friday at work was just nuts. I PDF'd some files at work using the wrong program, so I only got the first page of the multi-page reports. Yes, I had to PDF again all six of the reports I ran because I kept getting emails forwarded to me from other departments to redo them. (Crud...) Then (Yes, it was a fun day-NOT)... my co-worker locked us out of being able to run said reports. It was a simple error on her part. I felt bad for her though when my boss sent us an email literally blasting her. I had one sentence in the email- to not run any reports temporarily. The final straw of the day would be when my boss sent me an email asking me to make corrections in two files (not anything I'd worked on previously :) ). What two corrections were beyond me. I had to ask what was needed. Needless to say, I was exhausted by the end of the day!

Saturday was nice. I had to go to the older downtown section of my city in the morning. I captured one of the hearts made every year by the elementary school district's art foundation fundraiser. They're always really beautiful.

I also spoke to a friend I used to work with. It was nice to hear from her. In the evening, I saw "Kingsman" at the discount theater by me.

And that was my last week in May. :)

What happened this week...

I'm in the mood to get back into doing weekly updates. I think it's a better way of keeping a record of my life.

On Sunday, I of course went to church. Joy Enriquez, who starred in the TV show "7th Heaven" eeons ago, was the guest lead worship singer. She was pretty good!

I also did my parents grocery shopping that day. My mom busted up her knee a week and-a-half ago and it still really hurts. She did go to the ER, which found nothing broken. Orthopedic specialist in a few weeks though....

Monday was pretty typical. Work. I had an interesting discussion with a co-worker about all those bad loans we saw 10+ years ago. I also had an online discussion with the ex of a family member since she's a car salesperson. I need to seriously start thinking about buying a new/barely used car but had to be a little firm with her that I won't help her make her commission this month at work. :) I'll consider going to her though when I finally make the decision to get a car-and also save up enough for a down payment.

Tuesday saw more overtime at work. I also played phone tag with an office for an appointment I had to make. A friend I haven't spoken to in months also called, which was nice. My city had a debate at their council meeting over whether to drain a really gorgeous lake. Cities in Southern California are under pressure from the state to seriously cut back on water consumption. This lake may unfortunately be a casualty.

Wednesday also saw more overtime at work. I also realized I needed to get my cousin's baby gift. She's due in five weeks, so I texted her to get her registry information. Some of it was just way too expensive to get (Yes, it's her first child...) a baby who will spit on, poop on, and probably throw up on these things. In the end, I got her two books that she requested off Amazon. I got her two children's books in Hebrew (Her husband was born and raised in Israel) that she had requested. I then realized after making the purchase-and shipping it to me- that Amazon could have wrapped the gifts!! (Yes, it costs extra, but it would have been nice for them to wrap them and also send them to her.)  Oh well. Now I know for next time...

Thursday saw even more overtime. I was happy that my boss of a little over a month assigned some of her work for me to do while she was gone the next day only because she knew I had experience doing it. How old is the experience? Like almost 15 years ago. She did such a poor job explaining what needed to be done and also asked me to read the equally poorly written training manual. To say I was nervous that evening was an understatement. :(

I was happy on Friday since I had a paid three-day weekend in my midst.  I got frustrated when I had questions about the work I was assigned to do the previous day. The other person I could have asked questions to left for the weekend by the time I had to start in on my work... So, I had a fun few hours before leaving for the weekend.... Tuesday should be fun with my boss. :(

Saturday had me taking care of an issue with my driver's license. I had made an appointment with the DMV for next month, but the person on the phone told me to try and walk in to a DMV to handle it on a Saturday, when they only handle driver's licenses. I tried the DMV in my city, who quickly told me no way without an appointment and to try one a few cities away. That ended up being a pleasant surprise, as I took care of my license issue and got out within a normal amount of time. A pleasant experience at the Southern California DMV! Yes, I'm shocked!

 Such a fun week. :)

The rest of April, in pictoral formation......

April ended up being less morbid than March-woohoo! It had some really good moments, actually.

I inherited my now deceased next door neighbor's plants. Her brother walked over in early April and told me to pick out what I wanted from her plants and he'd happily move them for me. She was seriously plant lady, so I didn't pick everything. There are still around ten plants sitting in that patio! Here are two of them:

(I'm told Jade doesn't ever die, so these will probably be my longest living plants...)

I also had a scary moment right after getting a job offer....I literally could not find my important information to bring in on the first day. Not kidding you! Fortunately that got resolved fast. It's really an interesting position. My floor literally looks out to Angel Stadium and the Grove. I just finished my first pay period, so it'll be nice to get that check soon. :)

There was also a pretty big fire behind my city's major hospital. It started in a hiking trail behind the hospital. I've hiked the trail before and know it was a tinder box. It was a gorgeous trail before this and is now charred up dirt. Needless to say, the city has closed the trail for the time being.

Add to it the normal stressors with my elderly parents, and the month was pretty normal with some obviously good moments. On to May!
