The Risner Fire
My neck of the woods in Southern California had a pretty big brush fire this past week. I was surprised it even made national news-and was trending on Facebook!
The fire was called the Risner Fire (after a park that's literally right by the fire) and was located in a contentious stretch of land called Coyote Hills. It has been the subject of a fight for over 40 years to build property on it. A transient was arrested a few days ago for allegedly starting the fire while living in a homeless encampment on the property. (Coyote Hills is hundreds of acres, so it's no shock to hear of homeless camping out there.)
